John and I would like to personally thank everyone who has donated to the
"Isabella GME Research Fund"
Without your support thru the purchase of these "Pawfect Time Pendant Watches" as well as your cash donations we would not be as close to our goal as we are.....
The goal is to be able to co-sponsor a study in progress that has been funded by
" Morris Animal Foundation"

Mapping Genes Associated with Inflammatory Brain Disorder in Dogs

Necrotizing meningoencephalitis (NME) is an inflammatory disorder of the brain and its surrounding membranes that affects small, purebred dogs, including the Pug, Maltese and Chihuahua. The cause of NME is unknown, and there is no way to definitively test for NME before death. NME has proven to be inherited within families of Pugs, which indicates that genetic factors play a role in its development. Researchers previously identified three regions of genetic difference that are associated with the development of NME in Pugs. This study will work to identify specific genetic mutations responsible for this disorder. The identification of genes associated with NME will improve understanding of the disease, allow for the development of DNA tests and potentially help in the development of more directed treatment strategies. Ultimately, DNA tests should allow for a dramatic reduction in the incidence of NME by changing breeding programs.
Principal Investigator: Dr. Renee M. Barber, University of Georgia; Dr. Renee M. Barber, University of Georgia, Fellowship Training Grant
Co-sponsor: Pug Dog Club of America
Study ID: D10CA-406

As you can see this study is in progress and is being co-sponsored by
"The Pug Dog Club of America"
our goal is to raise the $3,000.00 it takes to be able to add the Yorkshire Terrier to the study, or be able to co-sponsor one of our own.....this all takes time and money.  John and I made a promise to Isabella that we would continue to fight for the much needed research so hopefully one day no other little one will ever have to die the way Isabella did....and that no other yorkie Mom or Dad will have to sit by and know there is nothing they can do to save their baby....
THIS IS A PROMISE WE INTEND TO KEEP

This disease has been around since the late 80's....it is killing our breed....we need to do all we can to hopefully one day stop it or at least be able to find out where it comes from and why....

A very special thank you to our wonderful vet  Dr Bruce Whitaker at
Newport Hills Animal Hospital
Without his expert knowledge and loving care we would not have had Isabella with us for as long as we did.  As soon as I knew we needed an expert I called my dear friend Linda Bush, I knew she had the best vet in our area....and thats where I knew Isabella needed to be...she called them and got her in right away...the entire staff was so supportative thru our whole 4 month fight...
Without all of the support from these very special people I don't think John or I could have gotten thru this.  You became our family thru this.
Thank You
